  • Beer & Wine Filtering Kit (10 in ) Beer & Wine Filtering Kit (10 in )

    Beer and Wine Filtering Kit

    45 reviews

This cartridge filter is designed to be installed inline between two ball lock Cornelius kegs. The design uses Argon or Nitrogen gas pressure to push wine out of the full keg, through the filter and into the clean keg. This kit includes a cartridge to filter out particles down to 1 micron in size, which is considered a "fine" or "polish" filtration. This is a fine place to start if your wine is already naturally very clear from successive rackings, or you have pre-fined the wine. If you do not wish to wait for racking to be effective or to pre-fine the wine ahead of filtration, MoreWine! suggests that you start with either our 5 micron or 3 micron cartridge and put the wine through successively finer filter media until you reach your desired level of clarity. The Beer and Wine Filtering Kit comes with one 10" filter housing, a 1 micron 10" spun poly sediment filter, fittings for connection to the filter housing, 3' of beverage line, clamps, and two beverage out ball lock quick disconnects. Spun-polypropylene filters are disposable filters and cannot be effectively cleaned for reuse. However, you can filter multiple kegs with one filter cartridge. Most customers report being able to filter 10-15 gallons of product, however you should be aware that your results will vary depending on the cloudiness of your beer or wine. 5-10 micron is considered rough filtration, 3 micron will remove most yeast, and 1 micron filtration will remove almost all yeast. All filters are rated nominal (will filter out 80-85% of matter at given rating).

  • Sale -26% Buon Vino Super Jet Filter

    Buon Vino Super Jet Filter

    5 reviews

This tried and true filter pumps fluid from one container, through three filter pads and back into another container. Designed for home winemakers who will be filtering more than 10 gallons at a time. Has a built in Flojet pump, which can be used to rack wine from one container to another by bypassing the filter pads. The pump is relatively small, drawing .5 amps and is standard 110V. Additional features include a carrying handle, built in pressure gauge, on/off switch and 4' power cord. The pressure gauge will tell you when you need to replace the pads. You will not want to filter wine which contains solids such as stems or oak chips. This will clog the pump and void the warranty. Filter package includes 8' of 1/2 ID tubing on the input side and 4' of 1/2" ID tubing on the output side. Input side includes sediment tip but we recommend our 1/2" Racking set up (R310 or R315). The output side comes with a hook for hanging to the side of the carboy. You may also want a racking cane (R373 or R376) on this output side so your receiving vessel fills from the bottom instead of the top (to reduce oxidation.) The manufacturer suggests that you wet the pads before inserting them into the filterhousing. Run a couple of gallons of water through the pads before you start filtering the wine. To help neutralize the pads you can use one to two teaspoons of Citric Acid in 2 gallons of water and run that through the filter. MoreWine suggests that a stock sanitzing solution of potassium metabisulphite and citric acid (1 tblsp each in a gallon of water) ran through the filter followed by a cold water rinse would be the best way to treat your pads prior to use. Please also read the instructions that are included with the filter prior to operation. Facts from the manufacturer: - 8 feet max on the draw hose - 30-35 feet on the push side - Has a 35 PSI limit beyond which it will reduce the flow   Please note the Super Jet Filter does not come with filter pads. The available filter pad options can be found below under "You Might Also Need".

  • Beer and Wine Plate Filter Kit Beer and Wine Plate Filter Kit

Beer and Wine Plate Filter Kit

    42 reviews

Most breweries and wineries use a large plate filter system to achieve clear product. Now you can do the same at home with two corny kegs. Our Beer and Wine Plate Filter Kit has a larger surface area, which means more yeast and particulate extraction than our cartridge filter, and comes with our plate filter, two disposable filter pads, tubing, flare fittings, and two flare beverage ball locks. Each filtering session requires two pads at a time, and each pad must be the same micron to work. The beer or wine is pushed out of the keg and into the housing at 5 PSI, where it passes on either side of the filter housing, then gets forced from the center through the pads, where it is then pushed out into your clean keg. The rough sides of both filters should be facing each other on the inside of the filter, so the smooth sides face outward. Each filter pad set is good for approximately 5 gallons of beer when the beer has been filtered by the previous size pads or you are starting with the rough filters. These pads are not designed to be back flushed and reused and should be used in one session.

Remove chlorine and organic flavor with this 10" carbon block filter. Also filters out sediment to 10 micron. We open the housing after use and store filter dry to eliminate algae from growing inside the housing. Designed to work with our filter housing or any other standard, 10" housing. Good for 8,000 gallons. After talking to different manufacturers it is our understanding that chloramines can be removed by carbon filtration if the water has a long contact time with the carbon. This product is designed to filter water only. NSF standard 42

  • Filter Sheets - Seitz KS80 40 cm x 40 cm (0.8 Micron) 100 Sheets

    Filter Sheets - 40 cm x 40 cm (0.8 Micron) 100 Sheets

    1 review

40cm x 40cm filter pads made for 40x40 plate filters. 0.8 micron pads are for ultra-fine polishing of the wine, or for preparing hard to filter wines to go through a sterile cartridge filter. Please note that all pad filters are rated 'nominal', meaning that about 90-95% of all particulate matter at the micron rating will be filtered out. There will always be a little bit of smaller material that is also filtered out, as well as some larger material that will make it through. The filters can be sterilized by in-line steam, auto-claving, dry heat, hot water or chemical methods. We choose to run Saniclean (CL27) solution through the pads followed by sterile water or a small amount of wine that is then discarded. After the solution is run through the pads, and the pads have softened, the filter will need to be re-tightened. Each pad has an entry side and an exit side, distinguishable by their different textures. The entry side is a billowy type texture, frequently called the "rough" side; and the exit side has a crosshatch pattern and is commonly called the "smooth" side. There are two reasons to filter wine: aesthetics and microbial stability. On the aesthetic side, filtration can make a wine more polished both in the glass and in the mouth; often creating a rounding effect that softens the wine’s edges. If your wine is sound with no flaws, then you can decide if you want to further shape your wine by filtering it. However, if you have residual sugar or Malic acid left in the wine, or there was a problem with Acetobacter or Brettanomyces during the ageing/storage period, then filtration is no longer an artistic decision; it becomes the only way to guarantee microbial stability for the wine.

How Filtration Works:
Pore sizes of filters are measured in microns. Typical winemaking sizes are 5, 3, 2, 1, and .45 micron media. The smaller the holes, the “tighter” the filter is said to be. Filtration’s guarantee of microbial stability comes from the fact that the pore size of filters can be made smaller than the actual yeast and microbes themselves. As the wine passes through the filter the larger microbes become stuck and are removed from the wine. Note: 2-micron filters are used to remove yeast, and .45-microns are needed to remove bacteria.

"Absolute" & "Nominal":
Filters are rated as being “Nominal” or “Absolute”. A nominal filter will remove most particles that are equal or greater than the rated micron size. An absolute filter will remove all particles larger than the micron rating.

If you are filtering a small amount of wine we recommend our round plate wine filter. If you are already using an enolmatic bottle filler to bottle your wine you might check out inline filter for that system that allows you to filter as you bottle. For larger volumes of 30 plus gallons you will probably want to look at our higher volume plate filters for filtering your wine.

How to size a Wine Filter
Sizing a wine filter for your winery is the first step on the road to enhanced stability and clarity in the wines you produce. The basic idea behind sizing a wine filter is to be able to filter the largest single lot of wine that you are likely to produce without clogging the filter media and having to stop the filtration process – this will always lead to the loss of whatever wine you have in the filter body and the hoses leading to and from the filter.

A good rule of thumb for 20x20cm filters is that you will be able to run between 10 and 15 gallons of wine per pad in the filter. So, a 10 plate wine filter will run between 100 and 150 gallons before clogging, provided that the wine is well settled and/or has been filtered already through a rougher pad. Again, this is a general rule and it is very important to understand that a wide range of factors can influence this. That said, this general rule of thumb tends to hold pretty true.
More information on fining and filtering wine can be found in our Red Winemaking and White Winemaking manuals.
