    A CoolBot allows a standard air conditioner to cool a room or space down to 35 degrees F.  Installs with no tools or electrical knowledge required.   Standard A/C units available from any hardware or appliance store have lots of power but they are electronically limited so that they cannot go below 60 degrees F.  This is because they would freeze up. Commercial refrigeration for walk in coolers combat freeze with increased surface area on the fins as well as fans. Instead the Cool bot technology uses multiple sensors, a heating element and programmed micro-controller to control your air conditioner in such a way that the unit can go below 60F and not freeze up.  The Coolbot cannot give you 100% of the btus listed on your air conditioner nor is suitable for large brewery or winery walk ins. It is perfect for wine cellars, beer storage, fermentation, etc.  Easy to install within 30 minutes with no tools or electrical knowleged required. While we can't tell you exactly what size space you can cool because of ambient temperatures and insulation factors, we recommend you google Coolbot. They have sold over 50,000 of these so there are lots of reviews and actual installs out there.     The Temperature Tamer hangs from the side of a bin or tank and has a built-in temperature controller that monitors the temperature and controls a solenoid valve, allowing coolant or heated water to enter a snake, plate or jacket to maintain your ideal temperature. Theoretically you could be maintaining the temperature of a red wine ferment at 77F in one tank while you cold stabilized a white wine at 30F in the next. The built-in Ranco controller allows for heating or cooling, has a temperature range of -30 to 220F, and will maintain the temperature in a ferment or tank within one degree of your set point. The controller opens and closes the built in electronic solenoid valve to start or stop the flow of coolant. The included thermal sensor can be placed into a thermowell mounted onto a tank or a floating thermowell used with a Macrobin. The unit comes equipped with 1/2" barb outlets for the glycol system, however you can remove those and attach anything you'd like to the 1/2" FPT behind them. We generally like to use Quick Disconnects in these systems, please contact us if you need assistance setting this up properly. An example set-up for cooling macro bins: Using one of our glycol systems run an outgoing and incoming loop of 1/2" line that is always recirculating cold glycol. Wherever you have a bin that needs cooling, tee your Temperature Tamer input into the line coming from your chiller, connect a hose from the Tamer's outlet to the inlet side of your cooling plate, and tee a hose from the cooling plate's outlet into the return line going back to the chiller.

The stopper has two holes measuring 3/8" and 1/4". Measures 14" from the bottom of the stopper to the end of the thermowell.     The IceMaster is designed to cool fermentations in small vessels or barrels. It can be used with any vessel/fermenter/tank/barrel that has a glycol jacket or submersed cooling snake/coil/rod. For each vessel you want to cool you will need to buy one of our BrewBuilt Chilling Pump Kit (GLY355).  Each Chilling Pump Kit includes a submersible pump that is placed in the cool bath of the IceMaster chiller along with a digital controller. The digital controller includes a thermal probe that should be inserted into a thermal well in your vessel or can be taped to the outside of the vessel if you don't have a thermal well. The digital controller then measures the temperature of your tank and turns the submersible pump on or off to cool the liquid in your vessel to the desired set temperature.  Compatibility The IceMaster can be used with any fermenter that has a built in cooling jacket or a submersed cooling coil. It works well as the cooling source for the following: Speidel - Speidel tanks with optional cooling jackets. You will need one Glycol Pump Kit for each tank.    Barrels - If you use our barrel snake. This can be particularly attractive for a white wine ferment in a barrel. You will need one Glycol Pump Kit for each fermenter. Coolstix - Any glass or PET carboy, Fermonster, or other small vessel that is using a Coolstix to maintain temperatures.   Capacity It is always difficult to determine exactly how many tanks can be chilled at one time as it depends on what is happening in each tank, how the tank is insulated, and what the ambient temperature is. Cold stabilizing always requires the most energy and requires well insulated tanks. As winemakers, one of the main keys to making great wines is being able to have control over our temperatures at all stages - starting with the fermentation and ending with the cellar.

Fermentation Temperatures:
The temperature of a fermentation has a direct influence on the quality of the wine. This is because wine yeast create different compounds at various temperatures. Cooler temperature fermentations preserve more aromatic esters and create lean, focused wines, but often with reduced mouthfeel. Warmer fermentations give greater complexity and mouthfeel, but at the loss of the original clarity of the fruit. In addition, the warmer a fermentation gets, the higher the amount of H2S will be produced. For winemakers, the goal is to be able to control the fermentation temperature within a desired range for the style of wine we are trying to make while never allowing it to get too hot.

Cellaring / Storage:
Once the fermentation is over, the temperature the wine is cellared at also has an effect on the quality of the wine. Wine is constantly developing and changing, and temperature determines how fast and harmonious this evolution will be. The ideal temperature for a slow and steady evolution is around 55 F (13 C). When wine is stored at cooler temperatures (less than 55 F), its development slows down but this doesn't really harm the wine. On the other hand, storing wine at higher temperatures can definitely have a detrimental effect on the wine over time. Heat causes wine to lose its fruit and volatile aromatic qualities, rendering it flat and lifeless over time.

(Note: Quick swings in temperature are more harmful to a wine than slightly elevated, steadily-held ones. In other words, even though 55 F is the ideal storage temp, it is better to store wine at a steady 60-65 F than to swing between 55-75 F every couple of days. This is why indoor closets are better than garages for wine storage!)

  • Temperature controlers are a simple and easy way to regulate the temperature of a refrigerator or air conditioner. This system works great, but you are limited to the storage capacity of the unit.
  • If you are working with larger vessels/volumes, then you will need to look into a complete glycol system. Another benefit to using a glycol system is that you can also use it to cool you entire cellar with an additional glycol fan unit!
