  • Kit (Extract) - American Honey Porter - PLACEHOLDER Kit (Extract) - American Honey Porter - PLACEHOLDER

American Honey Porter | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

The classic porter character of roast and coffee is beautifully balanced by a pleasant bitterness and a slight nutty taste and subtle honey flavor Includes Chinook and Cascade hops Estimated ABV: 6% Estimated IBUs: 31-34 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer In 2011, the White House home brewed beer for the first time in, well, perhaps centuries! We were super excited when a MoreBeer! customer first submitted his freedom of information act request for the White House homebrew recipes. We were a little surprised, and we'll say it - let down - when we saw the actual recipes. One MoreBeer! staffer blurted out "Whoa...this seems like beer that Prince Harry should be brewing." English malt extract, English hops, and even an English yeast strain were used; so the only thing truly American was the honey! It seems that we were not the only beer lovers to pick up on this. So while we really, really love English beers as much as the next homebrewer, we think the White House Brewmasters should be using fresh ingredients from well...America. Since we were tweaking the recipe towards this side of the pond, we decided we could also help educate the White House staff on their yeast selection. Yes dry yeast has gotten better but since it's for the White House and all, we think they can spring for liquid yeast...and is there any better choice for this recipe than Wyeast 1056 AMERICAN Ale or White Labs 001 California Ale?? Not really. In fact, just queue up the star spangled banner, turn on the football game, and throw some hot dogs on the grill because we are starting to feel pretty patriotic here. So while we send this kit along with our friendly suggestions back to the White House, YOU can make the exact same beer at home. That way if you are in a diner somewhere on the campaign trail and the president pulls up you can whip out a bottle of the 'Honey Pale the White House Should Be Making' or the 'Honey Porter the White House Should Be Making' and enlighten the Top Dog, homebrewer style. This American Honey Porter is composed of all American ingredients, including: Crystal 40L, Black Patent, Chocolate Malt, and Ultralight Malt Extract Chinook and Cascade Hops California Wildflower Honey This is an amazingly drinkable porter recipe which will have you coming back for more!  The classic porter character of roast and coffee is beautifully balanced by a pleasant bitterness and a slight nutty taste.  This is a beer which will be fantastic fresh, and even better if you can keep your hands off long enough to let it age!  The honey character is nearly buried under the porter character, but provides an interesting and refreshing spin on the classic porter! Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.054-59 SRM (Color Range): 26-28 IBUs: 31-34 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 6%   Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. To find our yeast recommendations, choose your preferred kit option above and then select the drop-down menu under “Yeast Options”.  For more info, click on the recommended yeast(s) below in the “You Might Also Need” section below. All included steeping grains will come milled.     Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME) MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style. LME is a viscous liquid, similar in consistency to maple syrup. In addition to being the more affordable option, many brewers find LME easier to handle than dry extract. DME is more condensed and comes in a powder format that is similar to baking flour. Although it’s a little more costly, DME is naturally lighter in color and stays fresher for longer. We highly recommend DME when brewing light colored beers.

  • Kit (Extract) - Rogue's I2PA - PLACEHOLDER Kit (Extract) - Rogue's I2PA - PLACEHOLDER

Rogue Ales I2PA Imperial IPA | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

This BrewMaster Series kit was scaled down to a homebrew batch size in collaboration with the brewmasters at Rogue Ales A malty beer that is radically hopped with an intense aroma and hop bitterness Includes Magnum, Cascade, Willamette, and Amarillo® hops Estimated ABV: 7.6% Estimated IBUs: 58-62 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer John C. Maier of Rogue Brewing Company, Newport Oregon has been an avid homebrewer since 1982. In the Fall of 1986, he decided to turn his passion into a job and attended the Siebel Institute of Technology, graduating from their 50th course in Brewing Technology. The Alaskan Brewery in Juneau hired John as Assistant BrewMaster in March of 1987. In 1988 he won the prestigious American Homebrewer's Association Homebrewer of the Year award. In May 1989 he left Alaska Brewery, and that same month walked in on the very first brew at Rogue Ales Brewery in Newport, Oregon. He has brewed over thirty million pints of beer for Rogue since. Rogue beers have won too many awards to list, and the brewery consistently receives the highest level of critical and acclaim. In our opinion, Rogue makes some of the most original and best beers anywhere because John continuously experiments to expand and refine his brewing creativity. His commercial brewing for Rogue reflects his homebrewing background, in that Rogue produces an amazing variety of beers - well over 20 different regular styles plus additional seasonal specialities. Their beers are always intense, distinctive and literally packed with flavor. We know of no other hands-on BrewMaster who makes as much beer commercially (Rogue brews 1550 gallons per batch), yet still finds time to develop 20 gallon pilot batches for new, commercial beer products. In order to insure that his pilot brews run as quickly and consistently as possible, Rogue recently purchased a MoreBeer! Model 2050 Professional Series BrewSculpture™ System with all available options, plus a 24-gallon MoreBeer! Stainless Conical Fermenter with cooling option. This industry-standard brewing system now serves as the product developmental platform for all new Rogue beers. Visit Rogue in either Newport or Portland, Oregon, or online at www.rogue.com. Imperial India Pale Ale ("I2PA") Recipe We were ecstatic when John offered us his famous Imperial India Pale Ale recipe as an ingredient kit. I2PA is a malty beer that is radically hopped with an intense aroma and hop bitterness. You can think of I2PA as an IPA on steroids. Beside the extract, the only other ingredient is a copious amounts of hops. No steeping grains! We suggest you buy a bottle of Rogue I 2 PA and see how your version matches up against the original. John recommends using White Labs California Yeast, WLP001. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.076-80 SRM (Color Range): 11 IBUs: 58-62 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 7.6% Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. • Kit (Extract) - Russian River's Blind Pig IPA - PLACEHOLDER Kit (Extract) - Russian River's Blind Pig IPA - PLACEHOLDER

Russian River Brewing Company Blind Pig® IPA | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

This BrewMaster Series kit was scaled down to a homebrew batch size in collaboration with the brewmasters at Russian River Brewing Company This is the original homebrew recipe that was the basis for Russian River Brewing Company's famous Blind Pig IPA Won Silver Medals at the World Cup of Beer and the Great American Beer Festival in 1996 Includes Magnum, Cascade, and Willamette hops Estimated ABV: 6.5% Estimated IBUs: 60 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer The original Double IPA! Vinnie Cilurzo began homebrewing in 1989 while in college. In 1994 Vinnie started the Blind Pig Brewing Company in Temecula, CA, a small, low-budget micro-brewery known for their extremely hoppy IPA—an IPA which won silver medals at both the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup. Vinnie sold his share in Blind Pig and was hired to manage and brew at the Russian River Brewing Company, a start-up brewery by Korbel Champagne in Guerneville, CA. In late 2002 Korbel decided to get out of the beer business and sold the Russian River name and brand to Vinnie who moved the brewery to Santa Rosa, CA, 90 miles North of San Francisco, where he and his wife Natalie opened a brew-pub which serves delicious bites and, of course, all of the Russian River Ales. Vinnie has won 10 awards at the Great American Beer Festival in just six years and was named Small Brewing Company Brewmaster of the Year in 1999. Russian River's smashing success continues to this day, expanding and opening a second brewery in Windsor, CA. Almost every beer that Vinnie makes commercially started out as a homebrew recipe at one point or another. Even as a professional brewer, Vinnie still homebrews at least 5 or 6 times a year. This is the original homebrew recipe that was the basis for Blind Pig IPA which won Silver Medals at the World Cup of Beer and the Great American Beer Festival in 1996, the last year Vinnie brewed it. Two dry hop additions along with 1 oz of American Oak are added directly to the fermenter after the first week of fermentation. To say it is a very unique, extremely flavorful IPA is an understatement. Vinnie recommends using White Labs California yeast, WLP001. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.065-70 SRM (Color Range): 7 IBUs: 60 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 6.5% Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. • Kit (Extract) - JP's Imperial Porter - PLACEHOLDER Kit (Extract) - JP's Imperial Porter - PLACEHOLDER

Imperial Porter by JP | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

Our Signature Series kits offer a selection of crazy, unique beers developed by MoreBeer! customers, associates, and homebrewing legends! This "Porter on steroids" has an outstanding malt character backed up with plenty of hop bitterness Includes Magnum, Cascade, and Willamette hops Estimated ABV: 8% Estimated IBUs: 70 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer You now know JP as a host on the Brewing Network, but before the Brewing Network JP was an original employee at MoreBeer! where his first job was cleaning up an infamous and massive malt extract spill Olin caused while taking and filling orders at the same time.  Because JP tends to get really good boilovers when he brews he usually makes high gravity beers whether he intends to or not. It may have something to do with consumption while brewing, not that any of us know anything about that. The result is always a starting gravity that is higher than anticipated. We put the beer on tap in the shop and it got rave reviews. It was both outstanding and unique. Sometimes things do happen for a reason! The beer can easily be described as a Porter on steroids. This kit has a lot of grain in it, so you may find two grain bags useful. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.079-84 SRM (Color Range): 39 IBUs: 70 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 8% Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. • Kit (Extract) - Frank Ellis - PLACEHOLDER Kit (Extract) - Frank Ellis - PLACEHOLDER

Pale Ale by Frank Ellis | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

Our Signature Series kits offer a selection of crazy, unique beers developed by MoreBeer! customers, associates, and homebrewing legends! This recipe displays the malt, alcohol and hoppiness of an IPA but with the bitterness of a Pale Ale Includes Willamette and Cascade hops Estimated ABV: 5.8% Estimated IBUs: 39-42 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer The legendary Frank Ellis, Grandfather of our Signature Series Kits, brings you his over the top Pale Ale with an amazing 7 oz of hops and 9 lbs of malt extract. It has the malt, alcohol and hoppiness of an IPA but the bitterness of a Pale Ale. Frank started with our American Pale Ale II, KIT250 – but this wasn’t enough flavor for Frank. So he added one pound of malt extract, more finish hops, followed by... yet more finish hops! The resulting flavor is malty with plenty of hop flavor, courtesy of the copious amounts of Cascade and Willamette hops. One day while  on the phone placing an order with us, Frank got tired of having to make these additions to our existing KIT250 so he asked why he couldn’t have his own kit to cut down on confusion. He was absolutely right!  So the series was born! When you are drinking any of the Signature Series recipes, raise your glass and give a virtual cheers to fellow homebrewer Frank Ellis in Missouri for the good idea. Frank has brewed his own kit an amazing 62 times over the last decade! Frank recommends using White Labs California yeast, WLP001 or Wyeast American, WY1056. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.058-62 SRM (Color Range): 7-11 IBUs: 39-42 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 5.8% Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. Our Signature Series kits offer a selection of crazy, unique beers developed by MoreBeer! customers, associates, and homebrewing legends! This unique beer recipe has a similar flavor to a Black and Tan but with a noticeable honey character Includes Cascade and Northern Brewer hops Estimated ABV: 5.3% Estimated IBUs: 30-34 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Jason, who recently graduated from the American Brewers Guild, now teaches our beginning and advanced brewing classes held every month in Concord, Ca. Jason use to brew up Jim Rossi's Honey-Pale and our B3 Stout and mix them together out of the tap 50/50. Jason decided to take it one step further and started brewing them together. He says "It is a like a Black and Tan" with a honey flavor of course. The beer does not taste like a true stout but is very far from being a Pale Ale. The continually positive response of "wow" from friends and other MoreBeer! customers prompted us to make his unique combination as his own kit, Honey-Stout. Thank you Jason for reminding us that when it comes to beer flavor, there are no rules. Jason recommends English yeast, WLP002. Honey Pale Ale by Jim Rossi | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

Our Signature Series kits offer a selection of crazy, unique beers developed by MoreBeer! customers, associates, and homebrewing legends! Lightly hopped with loads of honey to penetrate through the malty flavor profile Includes 100% Cascade hops Estimated ABV: 4.7% Estimated IBUs: 13-17 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer We would not have put 3 lbs of honey with 4.5 lbs of malt extract in a pale ale, but Jim had no fear and did just that. The result - a really nice mix of malt and honey flavors. There is enough honey to make it through into the flavor. Just a little Cascade hops in the beginning and finish keep the flavor emphasis on the honey. He suggests WLP002 because it is less attenuative and leaves more malt behind. • Kit (Extract) - Belgian Ale - PLACEHOLDER Kit (Extract) - Belgian Ale - PLACEHOLDER

Belgian Ale | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

Belgian Ale will give you a full roundup of phenolic, fruity, clove, plum, and banana flavors Includes Perle and Saaz hops Estimated ABV: 5% Estimated IBUs: 32 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Belgian ales are really about creating a simple yet elegant malt base upon which the unique Belgian yeast strains can create their wonderful, complex flavors. This Belgian Ale is their equivalent of our pale ale in alcoholic strength and body. The difference is that the hops are very subdued and only complimentary where as in many American beers hops can create a majority of the flavor profile. One is not better than the other just different, and we love diversity in beer. Terms used to describe Belgian Ales include phenolic, fruity, with the occasional clove, plum, and banana flavors coming through. Sometimes you just have to try one to understand. In the Dubble and Triple you will have some higher alcohol flavors coming through. This version is less alcoholic and highly drinkable. Any of the four Belgian yeast strains that we carry from Whitelabs could be used in any of the Belgian recipes. They are all excellent in their own right. The malt extract for this kit is made entirely from our German Pilsner Malt, giving it authentic European flavor. We use turbinado sugar to help up the alcohol and dry out the beer during fermentation. The extract version of this kit does NOT include grains. Most of the flavor from this beer is derived from the yeast and fermentation. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.049-53 SRM (Color Range): 4  IBUs: 32 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 5% Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. American Pale Ale II | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

    1 review

Our OG American Pale Ale recipe with the malt and hop character kicked up a notch Includes Magnum, Cascade and Willamette hops Estimated ABV: 5.3% Estimated IBUs: 57 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Looking for the perfect American Pale Ale to share with friends this summer? Do you like a Pale Ale with a rich malt flavor and a ton of hop character but without an overwhelming bitterness? Then the Pale Ale II should be your next brew. We took our American Pale Ale recipe and upped the malt, threw a ton of hops in the finish for flavor, but kept the bitterness the same. We think toning down the perceived bitterness is one reason we consistently get great reviews from brewers sharing this with friends. Keeping it real: Part of the success of this kit is blending a lot of Willamette and Cascade hops in the finish. This isn't a wild, new or crazy idea... this is old school. Cascade and Willamette were the hops that helped put craft brewing on the map in the 1980's. The reason they are still so popular... they make a damn good beer. Truly delectable and different yet still keeping it real.
