Wine Corks & Wine Corkers

When browsing MoreWine!'s selection of wine corks, it may be difficult to know which one is best for your particular wine. Choosing the correct cork comes down to two factors: how long the wine will be in the bottle before it gets consumed, and economics. If you will be bottling a simple, fruity wine that will be drunk within a year, then you probably don't need a wine cork that is rated for 15 -20 years (a grade 1, natural cork will absolutely do the job, but at 1.27$ a piece it is probably a bit overkill for this situation!). On the other hand, if you have made a wine that you will be appreciating for the next 5-10 years then it doesn't make sense to close that bottle with a wine cork that is only rated for 1 year, either! When choosing your cork, therefore, the goal is to strike a balance between the projected lifespan of the wine and how much you need to spend to ensure the wine is protected for this duration.

Years rated for:

  • Aglica* wine corks are rated for around 1 year.
  • Synthetic* and Agglomerated* "1+1" wine corks are rated for around 2 years.
  • Grade 3 natural wine corks are rated for 5-10 years.
  • Grade 2 natural wine corks are rated for 5-15 years
  • Grade 1 natural wine corks are rated for 5-20 years

*Please note: due to the firm nature of the polymers used to make them, synthetic corks do not compress as easily as natural corks. If you are using a hand corker this is an important detail to keep in mind because hand corkers do not generate enough compression to be able to completely insert a synthetic wine cork into a bottle: If you are using a hand corker we recommend only using natural corks. Floor corkers, on the other hand, easily generate the necessary compression to work with synthetic corks with no problem.

  • Corks -1 3/4 Grade 3 - PLACEHOLDER

    Wine Corks - 1 3/4 in. Grade 3

    3 reviews

A standard length and diameter single punch cork in a high quality grading at a reasonable price. Corks are typically graded on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the best score, based on the degree of porousness that the actual punch of cork exhibits. Cork trees that show a higher population of worms or fungi tend to yield cork crops which are more porous. The Grade 3 corks show less than average porousness and are on par with the quality of cork used in many commercial facilities. Grade 1 & 2 corks are almost completely solid and sell at very high prices. These corks are harvested and punched in Portugal, like the majority of the rest of the corks available today. They are processed, sorted, prepped and packaged here in Northern California.

  • Corks - 1 3/4 in Agglomerated 1+1 - PLACEHOLDER

    Wine Corks - 1 3/4 in Agglomerated 1+1

    1 review

This is a high quality agglomerated cork with solid end caps. An agglomerated cork is a cork that is composed of many small pieces that are pressed and adhered together. As the quality of cork has declined many wineries have begun to use alternative corks, such as synthetics or these agglomerated corks to insure a good seal in their wine. These corks offer the assurance of a good seal while at the same time allowing the breathing properties that solid corks offer. Agglomerated corks work best with floor corkers as they are hard to put in with hand corkers (they do not compress as much.)

  • Corks -1 3/4 Acquamark - PLACEHOLDER

Wine Corks - 1 3/4 in. Acquamark Corks

The Acquamark cork line is a high quality colmated cork.  These corks have the ageable lifespan of Natural Cork, but are closer to the price of an agglomerated or overrun cork. Colmated corks are Natural Corks that were not quite flawless enough to make a grade, but are then filled in with agglomerated pieces, resulting in an ageable, but economical cork. Dimensions: 45mm x 24mm

  • Corks - Aglica - PLACEHOLDER Corks - Aglica - PLACEHOLDER

    Wine Corks - Aglica

An agglomerated cork that offers a great seal using compressed pieces of small cork. Fantastic value. Because they do not compress as easy as natural corks, you will need a floor corker, as opposed to a handcorker, to push these into the bottles.

  • Wine Corks - #8 X 1-3/4 in Agglomerated - PLACEHOLDER Wine Corks - #8 X 1-3/4 in Agglomerated - PLACEHOLDER

    Wine Corks - #8 X 1-3/4 in Agglomerated

    2 reviews

#8 agglomerated corks are slightly smaller than the standard #9 corks. They are often used with hand corkers that cannot compress the standard #9's, or for bottles with smaller necks. Agglomerated corks are made from small cork pieces held together with a food grade binder. Corks are treated with a food grade wax and silicone coating before being packaged by the manufacturer. To use, corks may be dipped briefly in a sanitizer solution and then corked immediately. Do not soak or boil corks as this can remove the silicone coating, making them difficult to remove from the bottles.

    Corks - 1 3/4" Grade 3 Plus (1000ct)

    4 reviews

Superior cork quality without Grade 1 or 2 pricing! These corks are identical to our standard Grade 3 cork product (W431), except that they have been sorted to a higher standard (US sorting). Our standard Grade 3 corks are assembled through what is called an "AC" sorting, the standard sorting and grading procedure for our cork supplier. To generate a "US" sorting, a standard lot of AC-sorted Grade 3 corks is re-sorted to remove the lowest quality 12% of the lot. As a result, this bag of corks is of generally higher quality and has less variation between the highest and lowest quality cork in the package. This package represents a higher level of quality without the huge jump in price that you would have to pay to move to Grade 2 or Grade 1 corks.

    Belgian Corks for Bottles

    25 reviews

Cork your homebrewed Belgian beers with these corks made specifically for use with Belgian beer bottles. Our brewery-grade (meaning these are the same quality corks that commercial breweries use) corks work well with our Floor Corker (W410). A hand corker will not work with these corks. A long-time customer - John Francisco - told us a tip that he uses when he corks his Belgian beers - put a #7 stopper (FE440) over the plunger rod of the corker so that only 1 3/4" of the rod is exposed. This will stop the cork from going into the bottle too far. A wire hood can then be fastened over the remaining 6/8" - 7/8" of cork sticking out of the bottle. We have tried this and it works great! Attention: These corks come sanitary in the bag ready to be corked into a bottle. Do not sanitize or boil these corks. If done so, you will ruin the integrity of the cork. 1 5/8" L x 1" D
