stavin American Oak Cubes | Heavy Toast

    Description

Heavy Toast for Red Wines where you want the rich, carmelized, carbonized oak flavor. Nice to add as a small addition after having added your regular addition of medium or medium plus oak. Manufactured by StaVin. Cubes have a longer contact time than traditional chips do, which make them better for long-term aging of wines and beers. Also, longer contact time means longer extraction of flavors (3-6 months), which leads to a more complex combination of flavors. Chips are usually done giving flavor after a week, there by contributing a harsh, flat oak flavor.

Our cubes are fires toasted and cut by Stavin, a leading supplier of high-quality oak alternatives to top commercial wineries.

        barrel aging without the barrel

A good way to get barrel flavor without investing in a barrel and dealing w/ the hassle. I did forget about them in a RIS in the keg for a few years and they disintegrated. So don't do that. Still tasty but I had to strain the beer.

        Great for heavy oak flavor

Make sure your beer can stand big oak.

First oak treatment I've used worked great!

Soaked these puppies a bit of bourbon for two weeks added to secondary and enjoyed a very tasty "oak-aged" Porter.

Great for those 'barrel aged' homebrews

Used these to simulate a barrel aged brew. Soaked 2 oz. of these in some bourbon for a few weeks. Then racked my doppelbock onto them in a secondary. Let it sit for 8 months. Turned out awesome. I got all those smooth vanilla notes typical among many of the popular commercial barrel aged special release beers. I tried a similar method with french medium toast didn't come out nearly as smooth and too much raw wood aroma/flavor.
