Ariana Hops (Pellets)

    Description

From the Hop Research Center in Hüll, Germany, Ariana was developed from a cross breeding of Herkules and an unspecified wild male hop. Although it has a high enough alpha acid content to be used for bittering, Ariana's oil content makes it an ideal choice for aroma additions and dry hopping. The aroma profile is dominated by sweet, tropical fruit notes of pineapple and passion fruit, along with citrus and berries. A delicious addition to your next Pale Ale, IPA, or Hazy.

    Hop Statistics:
    Alpha Acids: 10.0 – 13.0%
    Beta Acids: 4.5 – 6.0%
    Alpha-Beta Ratio: 1.66 – 2.88
    Cohumulone: (% of alpha acids): 40 – 42%
Total Oils in mls per 100 grams dried: 1.6 – 2.4

        Very versatile and flavorful hop

Purchased this 5 lb bag as an economical add to my house APAs because the descriptors included citrus and grapefruit. I've been experimenting with it starting with a single hop single malt (Breiss Pale) with S-05 yeast to see what it would do and then tried different applications in my APAs. I've found that it takes on very different characteristics depending on when you add it to the boil. Extremely nice smooth bittering qualities at the beginning of the boil without any overpowering flavors. Mid boil additions have resulted in some pleasant continental grassy and straw flavors but not much citrus or fruit. End of boil aroma brings out a little citrus but not as forward as a west coast hop. Haven't tried dry hopping with it yet and probably won't. Ironically by chance I discovered that it makes a near perfect British India Pale using it as a bittering and mid-boil flavoring hop and then cascade at the end with an S-04 yeast. Its becoming one of my favorite multi purpose hops and a real bargain by the 5 lb bag.

        Great!

This is my second favorite hops after Mosaic. It doesn't taste like Mosaic but is still very very nice. For the price it makes an affordable and tasty IPA.
