Blichmann Oxygen Flow Regulator

    Description

The Oxygen Flow Regulator from Blichmann Engineering™ helps you dial in the EXACT liters per minute of oxygen needed to acheive 8-10 ppm of dissolved oxygen in your wort.  Vital to yeast health and the final flavor profile of your beer.  Knowing the FLOW is important - other regulators simply regulate pressure and depending on your downstream restriction the actual flow can vary widely.  Gone are the days of spray and pray!

        Just buy the other one

I think this is a decent regulator (I haven't been able to use it yet) but why can't they just put a barbed fitting in it? My local lowes and home depot don't have flare fittings with a barb. I couldn't even find parts to adapt it to different threads. More Beer sells the fitting but I won't be buying it from them.

This thing works great. You said it too the correct setting and you're good to go. Very simple

        Simply works.

Pretty simple piece of gear. I'm sure there is a much cheaper way to add oxygen from a tank but this takes out all the thread and connection research that results in fittings that don't fit. Highly recommend you start oxygenating. It does way more than shaking or splashing. The resulting wort is foamy and I have yet to NOT have a vigorous fermentation the following morning.

        Just buy it!

Works awesome! Wish I had bought this years ago and stopped wasting money on disposable bottles. The o2 flow meter is the real star of this unit. No doubt I will get proper aeration without waste. Do the math on cost per tank vs a disposable bottle. Cost of bottle and first fill pays for itself. If you can afford it don’t hesitate!

Less cost than a welding regulator and more control

Easy to dial in flow on oxygen

Use this for aerating wort before adding yeast. So far been using between .75-1.0 on the dial with my air stone.

works great on a 5 bbl setup

I'm using this while transferring to my fermenter off a 5 barrel kettle. The flow selector works really well and the gauge makes it easy to see how much O2 is left in the tank. It's hooked up to a large 4 ft high O2 tank. Very happy with it.

        Too Easy

Should have bought this sooner. Realized I was over-oxygenating up until now when I used the disposable oxygen tanks and basic regulator. This unit attaches easily to a CGA 540 oxygen tank and the Anvil O2 wand. Was surprised when using pre-defined flow rate and time at how little oxygen was used but had a HEALTHY yeast start. Think in the long run this will pay for itself in consistency and using less oxygen. Couldn't be simpler to use.

        Excellent Product for O2 Control

Although I am new to brewing this product was easy to set up and use. Quality construction and precise controls. Good product.

I bought this for my O2 tank it's a perfect fit and I no longer have to deal with the red disposable tanks from the hardware store.

A giant step up from small bottle O2 systems

I was getting tired of buying expensive small oxygen bottles for every third our fourth brew. Also disposing of the empties was concerning. This regulator coupled with a refillable tank is the best looking term solution. Flow is controlled without the guesswork. Much more efficient in the long run.

        works fine BUT inaccurate description

First it is not new. I've been using one for years. others have been selling this exact piece for years in various colors (green gold red). Blichman just wrote their name on this one and made it silver. Additionally it DOES NOT actually MEASURE flow AS CLAIMED IN THE THE DESCRIPTION it just sets an estimated flow as written on the black endcap knob.

What size is the flare fitting?

        MoreWine

        1/4" flare

        MoreWine

        It’s a standard 1/4” MFL.

How long and at what pressure do I oxygenate chilled wort? I have the stock Ss Brewtech 1/2 Bbl unitank carbonation stone and I go for 2 minutes at the “1” setting.

        MoreWine

There are some other variables that should be considered Diane. What temp is your wort? and are you doing inline oxygen or after you have transferred. I run a 5bbl brewhouse and kick out my wort at approx 66f and aerate at "2" seeing for 3/4 of my total volume. You can go a little lower for Belgian and/or Hefe Yeast. The goal is to establish approx. 12mg/l. Are you getting a good fermentation and repitching yeast? cheers Rick (Craftboro Brewing Depot)

        MoreWine

I've not read or heard of over-oxygenating your wort. That being said I have the same set up as you and typically push O2 for 2-3 minutes at a higher setting. The product works well.

        MoreWine

Diane The answer is based on your method of oxygenation and your batch size. Are you stirring the carb stone in the wort or pumping wort over the carb stone? If stirring Blichmann suggests 1lpm for every 5.5 gal of wort. If pumping use 0.5lpm for 1GPM of wort flow or 0.75lpm for 2GPM. Allow oxygen to flow entire time pumping at those volumes. Cheers! For a 5 Gal batch I run 1.5 minutes at 1.5 Ltr then shut it down and wait for it to stop bubbling. Hope this helps

Does this work with the disposable benzomatic oxygen tanks?

        MoreWine

unfortunately no it does not. I ordered one but had to return it for the oxywand 0.5 which works perfect with the disposable benzomatic tanks

        MoreWine

No it fits industrial style refillable tanks.
