Carbonation drops provide convenient, consistent carbonation for homebrew bottling. Customers said they're "perfect" and "easy to use" with one drop per 12oz bottle delivering good results. While praised for eliminating guessing with priming sugar, some noted they're pricier than alternatives and one bag contained only 60 drops instead of 80.
Perfect inexpensive and convenient. I use one per 12oz bottle for any style.
used 2 tabs in a standard 20 oz. and 1 tab in a 16 oz flip top. Carbonation was perfect for the Milk Stout.
Never used these I bought them so when I got done filling a keg and had some beer left I could bottle it.
Just drop in to the bottle and fill directly from the fermenter for less risk of oxygen contamination. I usually have more in the fermenter than my keg will hold and I now fill the leftovers in bottles and use this product. The carbonation it provides is good. The IPL I just made had more hop presence with the bottle conditioned beer than there was in my kegged beer.
Works really well for carbonating my beers and having each bottle consistently carbonated.
I wasn’t sure if they would work or if I had to spin the bottles to shake them up. So I did a control group experiment. There was no difference between the bottles I shook and the others. They were all carbonated perfectly. Definitely going to use them again
Quick and easy. Husband sais they tasted great
Add 5 or 6 units to a 1/2 gallon growler to bottle condition the excess from the fermenter when racking to secondary. Set aside for a month or more and open up a nicely carbonated reminder of the product that can be shared with friends.
Have always had great results.
So Simple and easy just drop them in and cap!
Yeah they're kinda pricey but no mixing or guessing with priming sugar. Always consistent never had a "bottle bomb".
I added 1 drop per 12 ounce bottle and it was semi-carbonated. I did see that the date on the bag was from like 2-3 years ago so I am not sure if age plays a part. I would be hesitant in putting 2 drops in but it may need some experimentation.
I love these. I know they’re more expend than the corn sugar but it’s so hassle free. I don’t use a secondary fermentation(no space) so it cuts bottling in half.
I have used these in the past and I am quite happy with this product. One drop in a 12 oz. bottle comes out at a nice medium carbonation. Beware the description though there are only 60 drops per bag not the 80 it says.
I tried them for very first time . Happy because was so easy to calculate the right amount and the final result was excellent
The only problem with these carbonation drops is there are only 60 in a bag
I know it doesn't contain gluten (since it's made out of fake sugar/s) but is it processed in the same facility as things that do contain gluten? (Wheat Barley Rye common beer making things).
Glucose and sucrose are both naturally occurring sugars from fruits and plants. Sugar and gluten are two totally separate things to begin with. The second half of your statement/question is a probable concern as a lot of food processing plants handle both sugars and grains containing gluten.
Will these tablets work if I've cold crashed the beer in the carboy prior to bottling?
Sure they will.
Yes They will still work
Yes capped beer have to be kept at room temp. for 2 weeks to carbonation.
I've never had an issue cold crashing and then bottling with these drops. There's still enough yeast in there to carbonate.
They will work just need more time and probably some higher temps for a bit
It should but will probably take longer. When i bottled regularly i noticed it taking maybe an extra 2-4 weeks for bottles to carb since theres less yeast in cold crashed beer.
What is the approximate CO2 volume one drop produces in a 12oz bottle?
One drop into a 12 oz bottle should give an average carbonation (for most ales and lagers) of somewhere between 2.2-2.7 volumes of CO2. If you wanted to calculate it exactly you could weigh the drop to see how much sugar is in one drop then use a Beer Priming Calculator online to calculate how much CO2 that volume of sugar will give you per 12 oz of beer. Cheers!
I would say 2.5 volumes.
About 2.2 volumes
We use 2 drops for 32oz bottle. Recommend for first time use 1 drop for 12oz bottle.
Will one tablet work for grolsch bottles? .. they are 15.2 oz
I have used them only with 12 oz bottles and they work great. One drop per 12 oz bottles. One drop would probably work on 15.2 oz. Two drops I think would be too much.
It would be a tad under carbonated but probably ok depending on style. You could always chop a tab up into 4-6 pieces and use those to get you there
Yes.
Depends on the style I suppose but I would say yes it would for all but the most highly carbed styles
Yes absolutely I do so all the time works perfectly.
I would say you will probably get a slightly low carbonation with one tab in a 15-16 oz. bottle. Similar to an English ale carb level. One tab just barely gives an acceptable carbonation level in a 12 oz. where 2 tabs in a 22 oz. seems just about right. It may seem like I'm splitting hairs but that's the experience I've had.
I have used these only for 12 oz bottles and they are a bit light on carbonation. I actually add a bit of additional corn sugar to each bottle now. I have no had issues with over pressure but I think yo are good with your larger bottles if you use 1.5 to 2 per bottle. Just my opinion
I usually fill 6 to 8 Grolsch bail-tops each time I bottle a batch and one carbonation drop in these seems to work just fine. You have to let it sit at least a week to ten days for ale at around 68 degrees otherwise it may seem like the drops aren't enough sugar to feed a decent head. Patience pays!
I haven't tried them with Grolsch but they work fine with full pint bottles.
How long do you wait for carbonation after you apply tablet to bottle?
I bottle first drop in the drop and then cap it. Wait about a month. I use these regularly as they produce a nice level of carbonation are reliable and super-easy to use.
About a week outside the fridge then you can cool the bottles.
Generally two weeks at room temperature for the bottle to fully carbonate.
1 to 2 weeks depending on temperature
I always waited at least 8-10 days. It'll take a little while for the drop(s) to dissolve and since I do it in my basement which is the coolest part of the house the yeast will take a little longer to work which is desirable since I don't want the slightest off-taste from hyperactive yeast small as the amount might be. Plus I like to let it sit around a few days anyway just to smooth out the flavor. There might be a shorter wait time but that's just the way I do it and have generally had good results with the carbonation drops.
About a week if kept at 65-70°
