Chinook Hop Rhizome

    Description

Rhizomes are now in stock and orders are being fulfilled. If you haven't ordered your rhizomes yet, this is your last chance till next season!

12.0-14.0% AA - Grows well in dry, hot climates. Does not grow well in moist climates.  Subject to spider mites, and a great Ornamental hop on top of it's fantastic flavors!

Very distinctive bittering hop usually used in ales. Some brewers use for a finish hop as well, it has a medium spicy aroma. The flavor/aroma is spicy and unique, with a huge following of loyal fans.

Rhizomes should be planted immediately for best results. If your area is still experiencing frost then you can plant them in a planter indoors until it is safe to transplant outside. The first years crop will generally be smaller than subsequent years. Since these are live plants, we cannot guarantee they will grow, so we recommend buying two of each type to help ensure their success.

    Shipping Restrictions:

Due to agricultural restrictions, we can only ship rhizomes to addresses that are in the United States, excepting Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and the counties of Bonner and Kootenai in Idaho. Unfortunately, we cannot ship these to international locations including APO/FPO addresses.

Customers praised the healthy rhizomes that "grow like crazy" and sprout quickly, often within 1-2 weeks. Many noted vigorous growth and successful harvests. Some experienced slow first-year growth that improved significantly in year two. A few shoppers received smaller rhizomes with slower growth compared to other retailers.

        Small and slow growing.

I purchased two rhizomes and had two from another online retailer. The two I purchased from MoreBeer were considerably smaller than the others and have been very slow to grow compared to the other rhizomes.

Too early to tell on yield but three buds shortly after planting. 1-2 ft after a month. Grown in central Florida.

        great looking rhizomes

What a difference! This is the best success I've ever had for hop rhizomes. I bought four varieties all have succeeded once planted arrived in great shape and took to the soil here in New England immediately. Thanks MoreBeer!

        2nd Year: And we're off!

First year (2014) started off very slow then grew about 4 feet and completely stopped. Planted in large pots on our deck with ample sunlight and consistent watering. This year they are vigorously growing with 5 to 10 chutes of each of the 4 roots I purchased = super psyched. My wife is a horticulturist and consoled me (wiped my tears away when they stopped growing) saying they just need a year to get going = it's science; highly recommend and do not get rid of if the first year is a no-go.

        I may have planted wrongly

Only one of four rhizomes have sprouted. That plant is healthy and growing 5 vines. I'll try again next year.

Only hops I have kept alive in the Phoenix heat

I tried and failed several times with other varieties from other places. I do not know if it is because it is a Chinook plant or where it came from but I have kept it alive through 2 summers and it has come back stronger each year. The first year the hops had very little aroma or taste but they were much better the second year and I am anxious to try them this year.

        Quality rhizome

I planted two of these and both grew. I planted a total of six rhizomes of different varieties and all but one grew. If you are buying rhizomes I suggest buying them here. They arrived well packaged and in good shape.

        So far so good

I ordered 2 of these and just received them about a month ago. I live in Arizona and these are supposed to handle hot dry conditions better than other hops. They arrived in good shape and within a week of planting they have sprouted and are growing strong. I guess the rest is up to me. I will try to let you know the progress for next year.
