Customers said this mill "does what it's supposed to do" for grinding grain, working well by hand or with a drill attachment. Many praised the easy assembly and solid construction. However, some noted the roller gap markings are inaccurate (feeler gauges help), and the second roller can disengage during use, requiring manual intervention.

        Not terrible for the price.

It does what it's supposed to do. The markings on the knob/plate for roller gap adjustment are inaccurate but using feeler gauges makes that a non issue.

        barley mill

for the price this mill works great. i wish the rollers both turned from power instead of friction. you have to set the nap just so or the second roller won’t turn or no grain will go through. i suspect that all the mills designed with only one driven roller are like this. but when i got the setting right it grinds fine and my original gravities have been several points higher on my usual recipes.

        Pretty damn good

Easy to put together easy to use and great product. Hook a drill up to where the crank would be and grind away.

Perfect Mill for a hobby distiller/brewer.

The EVIL TWIN mill does everything I need and then some. With my cordless drill chucked up on the shaft it will chew through 20 lbs of cracked corn in less than 10 minutes...and that is running it through twice to pulverize it into a corn flour/meal consistency. Works as advertised

Solid construction quality material frustrating to use.

It gets the job done but I think it could work a little better for how much it costs. I use mine with a power drill and I have trouble getting both rollers to spin. It will only catch the 2nd roller if a piece of grain gets between them otherwise just the main roller spins and uncrushed grain spills out around the roller into the bucket. I have it set to .04 which is the size I prefer to mill at for my setup. A lot of the time I have to reach underneath the mill in spin the 2nd roller with my hand to get it going then after a few seconds of milling the second roller will disengage and it stops milling grain again. I spend more time fighting with it then actually milling grain but again it gets the job done..

assembled easly. works well. does exactly what i wanted it to do. sits nicely on top of a 5 gal bucket. one word of caution: if you are useing a drill motor to turn the mill keep one hand on the mill or board it is attached to so that if it "binds" the drill motor will not "flip" the mill and spill grain all over the place (i did that once what a mess). learn by doing. very happy with it. good product. good price. i recommend it.

Not as good as the Barley Crusher

Had my Barley Crusher for 7 years or so. Decided I would try this instead and save myself $20. Should have just got another one. The base doesn't fit on a bucket. The black rubber stoppers are too far apart to fit on a bucket. Also the hopper was rubbing on the rollers when attached. Easily bended the metal back so it wouldn't happen but its not just assemble and its a mill. You will defiantly have to trouble shoot issues with this thing.

Can grain be finely crushed with this mill like flour?

        MoreWine

I set mine at .032" ("credit card thickness") with feeler gauges and it makes a bit of flour with 2 row. I imagine that since it can be adjusted tighter finely crushed flour can be achieved.

        MoreWine

I don’t believe so at leadt on one pass. maybe with some modifications perhaps.

        MoreWine

You could run the grains thru multiple times but I don't think you could get it as fine a grind as flour.

        MoreWine

i have never ground anything that fine (flour). i use the mill to grind corn and i grind i down to a coarse corn meal. i also use it to grind malted grain. it works great and meets all my expectations. can't be beat for the price.

        MoreWine

Yes it can but I don’t know why you would want to do that.

        MoreWine

        I don't know

        MoreWine

Yes you can adjust the density of the grinder.

        MoreWine

I would say no because I don't think it would get the husks of the grain as fine as flour. I don't think this was meant to finely crush grain.

        MoreWine

This mill is limited to a fine crush. Had to initially fiddle with the adjustment to widest setting just to pull the whole grains into the grinders. You could likely make a second run thru mill at a tighter setting to get very fine.

        MoreWine

I have the gap on mine moderately set for cracked corn. If I run the corn thru the mill twice it turns roughly half of it into corn flower. So I'd say depending on what you're running and how tight you set the rollers you could get a really fine flour. Chuck a cordless drill on the shaft and let it eat!

What are the correct settings to crush 2-row and Pilsner malts?

        MoreWine

        half way between 25and50

        MoreWine

I'm still searching for the correct numbers but I can tell you when brewing with a Spike Solo 20g system 0.032" and 0.035" result in stuck mashes. This was with mostly 2-row and a little bit of oats and wheat.

        MoreWine

It depends on how fine you want to mill your grain. I mill cracked corn and run it thru twice with the gap moderately set.

        MoreWine

I do BIAB and use a finer crush than the tiered systems. So the correct setting would depend on what and how your brewing

        MoreWine

I'd start at 0.05 and crush about a cup or so to visually see how it looks then adjust as you go. Right now I have mine set to about 0.0625 and I get ~75 % efficiency with Victory 2-row but I do have to recirculate quite a lot.

        MoreWine

It depends on your mash tun false bottom. I use a .038 inch setting.

        MoreWine

You can't rely on the settings and you will need to observe the runnout between the two rollers. If the runnout exists you will need to return the device like I did. It turns out that I in fact returned mine and traded upwards to a 3 roller device. If you don't observe runnout then you can just measure the distance between the 2 rollers to about .056" with a feeler gauge.

        MoreWine

I always crush using the same setting. I use a credit card to slide in between the rollers and make sure it is pretty tight but not pinching the card. Make sure each side of the rollers is adjusted and equal. Should be good to go then.

        Is the base included?

        MoreWine

Yes. » 1 roller mill connected (attached) to a wooden base

        MoreWine

Yes. Everything in that picture is included. Bucket is not included. I used it twice and I am very happy with it.

        MoreWine

I think it is think you just assemble the hopper and attach handle

        MoreWine

Yes the Base is included... Great Mill... since I purchased mine it has increased my efficiency with the batches I have made... most likely because I’m able to get the crush I want and it’s fresher I grind just before I brew to make sure I retain the most sugar

        MoreWine

        Yes

        MoreWine

Yes the base is included. Fits in a standard 5 gallon bucket well pretty stable while grinding.

        MoreWine

Yes the base is included. It sits on top of a five gallon bucket perfectly.
