        Excellent oak products

Very easy to use and easy to work around when racking. Doesn't leave behind sediment to clog anything up. Depending on varietal I add these along with starting malolactic fermentation then when malo is done I soak them with an SO2 solution while I transfer wine from malo to "aging" carboy then rinse with purified water and place back in the new carboy for another several months (total about 3 to 4 months).

        Great purchase

These sticks are perfect for the 5 gallon carboy adds a hint of oak flavor. If you want a stronger oak flavor add 2 sticks to 5 gallons.

        Great WineStix!

Delivered on time. Using the light toast on Viognier white wine while aging in carboys. Just want to add a bit more complexity to the wine. First time using on a white. Have used them on a number of red varietals in the past with predictable and consistent results!

        Wine styx

Don't know how they affected the wine. Left them in for 3 months and the wine will be bottled next August (2018). I hope they are less aggressive than oak cubes.

Good morning guys can I mix one stick with 2oz oak cube in a 6 gallons batch ?thanks

        MoreWine

You should be fine to mix them yes. Myself and many others have mixed a combination of the winestix together (two different types and toasts) in one carboy with more complex results. The stick should be just fine with a cube in there with it.

How long should the sticks be left in the barrel or carboy? Thank you!

        MoreWine

oak flavor may dissipate only a little over time. There is also the factor of when in the raising you add the stix. One should have an idea depending on the flavor profile expected if you know the fruit. To pull the sticks out too early might leave you with not enough. Assuming the manufacturers plateau for the product in a carboy is true If it becomes too strong wait only a few weeks more to pull them. You can always add a few cubes later but you can’t easily dilute an overoaked wine. You should be tasting and testing every month in the spring which puts you at the six months plateau according to winestix if you put them in sometime after fermentation completes but before cold stabilization.

        MoreWine

I think the package recommends a minimum of six months but how long you leave them in beyond that is up to you and the flavor profile you’re aiming for. Taste at least monthly and make your determination based on that. A recent batch of Cabernet hit the mark for me at six months the longest I’ve tried thus far but at some point I may try up to a year.

        MoreWine

At least 3 months. Longer is better.

        MoreWine

up to you! That’s the great thing about home winemaking. You get to decide when there is enough oak for your tastes.

        MoreWine

As long as is necessary to get the oak flavor you want.
