Duotight BlowTie | Complete Kit | Diaphragm Spunding Valve | Triple Scale Pressure Gauge | 0-40 PSI | 8 mm Duotight | CM Becker Ball Lock Quick Disconnect (QD)

    Description

The Blow Tie Spunding Valve complete kit is used to release excess pressure on a pressurized fermenter or from a keg while doing pressure transfers. Thanks to the large surface area of the diaphragm, this style spunding valve is much more accurate than the poppet style. The blow off pressure can be easily set using the included Push-In Pressure Gauge. The kit includes everything you'll need to use the spunding valve right out of the bag.

    Kit Includes:

    • BlowTie
    • Pressure Gauge (0-40 psi)
    • Ball Lock Disconnect
    • Duotight Tee & Flared Duotight Fitting
    • 2x Lengths of EVABarrier 8mm OD Tubing

        Maybe

Received this fully-assembled unit a few days ago. The BlowTie spunding valve was hooked up on the output side of the valve (arrow pointing at tube). One minute of frustration. But many may not check given it is already assembled. Flipped tube to other side and it seems OK now. Gauge at 4.5 PSI with no pressure on it. Yes I tried "burping" it. No dice. I hope this all works. None of this is confidence building.

        BlowTie or Die!

I have used a couple different spunding valves and even built my own. All of those however used the spring and poppet pressure relief valve. Wanting a greater degree of accuracy I decided to order a BlowTie spunding valve. The diaphragm PRV makes such a big difference when trying to maintain a set pressure! Perfect for pressure fermentation. I wish I had gotten one from the get go! I'm not generally a fan of more plastic in my "brewhouse" (garage) but in this case it's beneficial. I use fermcap to keep kraeusen under control but it's no guarantee. If the BlowTie does get high kraeusen in it it's very easy to clean and sanitize before using again. The duotight fittings make it super easy to take apart and being unthreaded easier to clean. On top of everything else it's a great price! It's not much more expensive than the cheapest spunding valves on the market and cheaper than building your own. The performance is second to none. BlowTie is the clear choice when selecting spunding valves (at the homebrew level at least).

        Works

This works but don't expect perfection... It is a plastic valve that isn't as smooth as a metal one would be but overall it works. You will just need to adjust it so keep an eye on it until it's dialed in for the pressure you want... Would I buy it again... Yes I would

        It Works

I have just gotten into pressure fermenting and it is GREAT and this Spunding valve works GREAT. The only thing that you have to watch out for is after taking it apart for cleaning (not the valve) is the flow direction it is hard to see the arrow on the valve.

        Watch for backwards valve installation

Everything is fine with my BlowTie and it is working great but I inspected it before use and found that the valve was installed backwards. It's an easy fix because of the DuoTight fittings but it's something that could be a potential safety issue if not caught. Based on other reviews I'm not the only person who has come across this issue.

        Ferment under pressure

Great accessory to hold a consistent pressure for fermentation under pressure. Attached mine to the fermzilla.

Works well but beware of incorrect assembly!

The spunding valve came pre-assembled from MoreBeer. It worked perfectly once I figured out that the regulator had been installed backwards and would not bleed pressure no matter how much the pressure adjuster was turned out. That could've resulted in severe over-pressurization of the beer and fermenter. MoreBeer needs to tighten-up their quality control or someone could get hurt or worse yet ruin a perfectly good batch of beer!

Don't let the plasic concern you.

Since the package that I received did not come with instructions and was assembled incorrectly I would highly recommend going to YouTube and watch the assembly and use instructions. I also recommend purchasing additional 8 mm or 5/16 of tubing to help with the pressure settings. You will be glad you did.

        Excellent product

The bow tie is worth the money. I use it for several different task. I would recommend this product to anyone.

        Zero complaints!

I've used this for a handful of pressurized fermentations and transfers with zero issues. Super easy to dismantle and clean if krausen/wort manages to get into the valve.

        Great spunding valve!

I bought this valve because I had trouble with another style spunding valve. This one worked fantastic. I would recommend this valve if you want to easily pressure ferment!

        Valve installed backwards

After struggling with using for three different batches I realized the valve was installed backwards. Easy to fix and working now. Check the direction of the arrow on the side of the valve.

        I'm guessing it's okay

Did my brewing using my Fermzilla for the second time. Put this on and away we go. Fermentation starts and I try adjusting this one way and the other and it isn't venting. I'm starting to worry as it's a Monday and MoreBeer is closed. Ended up getting a (newer?) replacement at another shop and it works great. When I watched the vid on this they were explaining how to assemble it. Mine was assembled when I got it. Did some looking at it and it would appear that the diaphragm on the end was attached with the flow indicator backward. I'll return it and get another recipe kit. 3 star for it not working but not lower as the new one from the same vendor seems to work just fine.

Great product would have given 5 stars except for a couple issues

So far it works good mine came in a different configuration than shown above which worries me if I’m filling a keg and foam gets in the line and could get into the gauge. I don’t know how those fittings work so I haven’t reoriented the gauge. Also the gauge has slipped out causing gas leak.

        Works ok.

Kind of a pain in the *** to set up. You have to make fine adjustments throughout the span of a day until you get it set to your desired PSI. AT first it wasn't working at all but I gave it a good bump and the diaphragm stopped sticking. The set screw is pretty short so setting it to 10 PSI was almost at the end of the threads. Overall it worked ok.

        Measures pressure accurately

The gauge does what it is supposed to and is accurate and responsive. The pressure fittings for the tubing and its connections sometimes fall apart even with slight motion to the assembly

        Not worth the money

The unit leaks and causes pressure to drop. I have tried to tighten and it still leaks. Therefore it has minimal value as a spunding valve.

        Secure your connections well.

Works mechanically great just have to make extra certain to make your connections are secure as lateral force on the tubing from the gauge and gravity can cause leaks if extra care is not taken to secure them.

        J
        Joseph
        Requires constant adjustment

It does the job but it is definitely not a set and forget. The spunding valve doesn't hold it's calibration so I have to adjust the pressure down 2-3 times during a ferment.
