FerMonster 1 Gallon Ported Carboy With Spigot

    Description

Carboys are great, but they have some issues: They require funnels to get liquid in, and cleaning brushes to clean up after. They hold a decent volume, but all are a bit undersized for fermentation, and have no inherent measuring system. Glass Carboys are breakable, while plastic carboys scratch with the first brush cleaning. The Fermonster leaves all these problems behind!

These ported versions come with our plastic spigot (FE347), allowing for easy racking and sampling!

These Fermonster Plastic Carboy Fermenters are made from heavy PET plastic, the same used in 2 L soda bottles, which is nearly impermeable to oxygen penetration. The huge 4" opening makes filling a breeze, and cleanup is as easy as wiping down the inside. Glass carboys are fragile, and this is nothing like that. The hefty plastic construction will hold up to brew day abuse.

These fermentors are completely air-tight; the bodies constructed of heavy, oxygen impervious P.E.T. plastic, and the lids sealed tight with an O-Ring. Additional O-Rings and Lids both with and without holes are available for purchase, see our You Might Also Need items below.

    • 4" inner diameter wide mouth carboy - easy to clean!

        1 gal Fermonster

Decent one gallon fermenter. Would be much better if a thicker plastic was used. The thickness is about the same as a 2L bottle but is more flimsy since it's twice the size. Currently have two batches of cider in them. Hopefully it will last for a few years but not sure if it will.

        It's just ok

I like it but I don't think it's going to last. Everytime I open the spigot I am afraid it's going to break the carboy. So I have to use both hands to hold the base of spigot still and turn it.

        Great 1 Gallon Fermenter

Great fermenter for running test batches of sour beer! The spigot makes bottling very easy.

        Great gallon

Came as advertised and I’m pleased. As a matter of fact I have a mead fermenting right now and I’m going to order a few more

Does the spigot have a sediment blocker?

        MoreWine

        No it does not.

        MoreWine

Don’t think so but there is a reasonable gap between the bottom of the spigot hole and the base of the vessel. It kept most of the sediment from passing into my secondary.

        MoreWine

Not sure what you mean by “sediment blocker.” The spigot is positioned some distance from the base though so there’s room for a lot of sediment below the spigot. I use mine for kombucha so don’t have to worry about sediment.

        MoreWine

This is a piece of junk - don’t buy - lvery thin and flimsy eaked all over the place.

        MoreWine

No it does not have any kind of filtration or blocker

        MoreWine

        no

how much brew will this actually hold? Is it 1.4 gallons?

        MoreWine

To the rim it holds about 1.2 gal but to leave room for krausen I wouldn't fill it beyond 1.06 gal (1 gal + 1 cup).

        MoreWine

I would think not much more than 1 gallon because you want to leave enough room for the krausen. These have the extra room built in for the necessary head space but it will all depend on what kind of beer you are brewing.

        MoreWine

I would say it is about 1.1 gallons

        MoreWine

This fermenter is designed to hold 1 gallon with a little headspace for krausen. In total it will hold about 1.2 gallons if you fill it all the way to the top.

Does it hold exactly 1 gallon of liquid or is there additional space for the krausen?

        MoreWine

I have two and I’m glad I do.Yes they have space for the Krausen

        MoreWine

There is ullage above one gallon for krausen. These were fairly successful and economical for doing side-by-side fermentation trials. However 1) the side walls are thin and flimsy like a PET soda bottle 2) I did have some trouble getting the spigots to seal so test those before filling them with fermentables and 3) I saw no action on the fermentation lock: not sure if the stopper made a poor seal with the cap or if the screw-top lid seals poorly. Not a big deal but an inconvenience.

        MoreWine

The 1gal mark is right where it starts to narrow so there is about 2-3 inches of headspace.

        MoreWine

It does but it would be a little cramped for head room with a higher Krausen yield brew if you filled it to a full gallon.
