FerMonster 3 Gallon Ported Carboy (Spigot Not Included)

    Description

Carboys are great, but they have some issues: They require funnels to get liquid in, and cleaning brushes to clean up after. They hold a decent volume, but all are a bit undersized for fermentation, and have no inherent measuring system. Glass Carboys are breakable, while plastic carboys scratch with the first brush cleaning. The Fermonster leaves all these problems behind.

These Fermonster Plastic Carboy Fermenters are made from heavy PET plastic, the same used in 2 L soda bottles, which is nearly impermeable to oxygen penetration. The huge 4" opening makes filling a breeze, and cleanup is as easy as wiping down the inside. Glass carboys are fragile, and this is nothing like that. The hefty plastic construction will hold up to brew day abuse.

These fermenters are ported but do not come with a spigot. FE347 is the plastic spigot we recommend along with this fermenter.

These fermentors are completely air-tight; the bodies constructed of heavy, oxygen impervious P.E.T. plastic, and the lids sealed tight with an O-Ring. Additional O-Rings and Lids both with and without holes are available for purchase, see our You Might Also Need items below.

Customers praised this carboy for brewing small batches, noting it's "lightweight, simple to clean" and works well for aging wine and meads. Shoppers appreciated the value and noted it "beats glass by a mile." However, one concern was the narrow opening making spigot installation difficult for some.

good but difficult unless you have small arms

this is a good fermenter with one serious drawback: the mouth isn't wide enough to get your arm deep enough inside to firmly screw on your spigot. were it not for this issue i would rate it 5 stars for what it is but with this drawback i cannot rate it above a 3 since this will effect many brewers.

        Beats glass by a mile

Lightweight simple to clean no need for a siphon fits a nice big stainless hop spider for dry hopping and it bounces if you drop it. What more could you ask for.

        Carboy wine storage

The containers work very well for aging the wine until you need to top off your oak barrells. I have been able to keep wine in one of them for about 1 1/2 years with no issues. Just make sure the gasket is properly set when you put on the top.

        Perfectly proportioned

I like to brew 2.5 gallons when trying a new recipe (In case I’m not thrilled with the end product). This Carboy is just right for such occasions!

Are there volume marking on the side? If so in what denominations? [gallons only half gallon etc]

        MoreWine

No markings I marked mine by adding 1/2 gallon at a time and marking the outside of the container.

        MoreWine

There are no markings on these to indicate volume levels. I had to make my own. 3 gallons is about at the shoulder though.

        MoreWine

There are not. But what I did was fill it with a half gallon of water at a time then mark the outside with a sharpie. So now I have volume markings in the units I want.

What does "ported" mean? Does the fermenter have a hole such that a spigot is required?

        MoreWine

        MoreWine

yes there is a hole at the bottom for a spigot. i went to my local brew store and bought one to fit .

        MoreWine

        Yes that’s correct

        MoreWine

        Yes you are correct.

        MoreWine

        That is correct.

        MoreWine

Yes. A ported FerMonster will come with a 7/8" hole for a standard plastic spigot.

Will the FE347 bucket spigot work on this carboy?

        MoreWine

I've been using these spigots with a 3 gallon FerMonster without issue.

        MoreWine

That's the one that is recommended in the Description text.
