    Suggested Applications:

    • 12L: Perfect for storing small lots, making experimental batches and taking some of your beer or wine along with you to your next party.
    • 20L: Ideal for secondary fermentation and storage of 5 gallon batches.
    • 30L: The vessel for fermenting wine kits and 5 gallon batches of beer with plenty of headspace and no need for a blowoff tube.
    • 60L: Perfect for fermenting larger batches of wine or 10 gallon batches of beer in a single container! Only 4" larger in diameter than a 6.5 gallon carboy!
    • 120L: Ferment & Store large batches of anything - your creativity is the only limit!

Approximate Dimensions: 15.75in Diameter x 24in Height (w/out airlock in place). The maximum temperature that these plastic fermenters can handle is 140F. Approx. 17in Diameter including handles.

**Please Note - The handles on the Speidel Plastic Fermenters are capable of handling a weight load of 66lbs each, or 132lbs when using both. Therefore, they can be used to move this unit when full.

    FAQ:

    • Can filled containers be carried by the handles?
      • Depending on the weight—barrels up to 30L are no problem—60L is the limit and should not be carried when completely full. The handles have a weight capacity of 30kg (66 lbs).
    • Is there an upper limit on the alcohol content of the stored liquid?
      • In principle, there is not. However, it should be noted that the higher the alcohol content, the faster the seals and, to a lesser extent, the tank itself will wear out.
    • Up to what temperature can the containers be used?
      • For short periods of time the containers can withstand temperatures of up to 80°C (176°F). This temperature should not be exceeded. For longer periods of time the containers can be used at temperatures up to 60°C (140°F).

        Great product - faulty lid/gasket

I already had 4 of these, and really liked them - enough so that I recently bought 2 more. Unfortunately the lid gasket in the new ones doesn't consistently stay in when the lid is turned right-side up to put it on the fermenter. This makes it very difficult to get the lid on properly and not have the gasket falling out of the channel in the lid. Not sure what to do about this, but I'm open to ideas. This issue greatly lessens the usability and value of the fermenter.

Why choose this over the FE730?

        MoreWine

Es cuestión de gustos. Ambos sirven igual

        MoreWine

Simplest answer of choice came down to not knowing about the FE730. Looks like a space saver I may consider in the future. However the other speidel for my purposes fits perfectly in my converted fermentation refrigerator and without any corners is very quick to clean.

        MoreWine

Better utilization of space and sits better on our pallets to move. would be better if they came with metal spigot because we have to order it separate. The plastic ones leak and can't be cleaned properly.

        MoreWine

I believe the height and shape are more suited for fermenting the FE730 I think is more for long term storage of wine. I am very happy with my FE720 and with part #FE742 and a ball valve it is very easy to drain and clean.

        MoreWine

Wider mouth makes it easier to clean it. Also it’s dimensions fit better on our wire racking. Before we got a glycol chiller we used chest freezers to ferment therefore these fit perfect on our system. It’s up to your needs which one to get bit talking about quality there are no differences.

        MoreWine

I have one of each. I use them for wine. I like the 720 for longer term aging and find the 730 works better for fermentation because of the ability to punch down the cap with the wide opening.

        MoreWine

I have used both but prefer the FE730 over the FE720 because I don't use them for fermentation only for short term storage (i.e. Time to remove wine from an oak barrel but not ready to bottle). I have friends that use the FE720 for red wine fermentation and for post fermentation maceration and that works better for them due to the wide open top. Bottom line is the FE720 with the wide open top is better for fermentation and the FE730 with the smaller screw on top is better for storage.

        MoreWine

Just depends on your setup as in your space. I have racks made for these and the 120L and also fit the variable capacity ones too. But if you like the square do the square man it's essentially no different except the shape. Well and the lid. I love that the ENTIRE top comes off for cleaning but that wasn't on my mind when I bought these (I think we have around a dozen of these in 60-120l now.

Will this fit with the airlock in a kegerator?

        MoreWine

        Unfortunately no.

        MoreWine

It will not I've tried multiple times and it's about 2 inches to tall

        MoreWine

Can't answer the question. I don't know the dimensions of a kegerator (don't have one). I can tell you the whole thing barely fits inside a normal size refrigerator.

        MoreWine

Do not believe so at least not in a standard size one.

what sized tubing fits the speidel spigot?

        MoreWine

1/2" ID silicone tubing fits perfect.

Can you use a vacuum pump to move wine into these vessels?

        MoreWine

Yes that can be done through the top port in lid by removing airlock or through the turn valve in bottom.

        MoreWine

Yes you can use a vacuum pump as well as co2 pressure to push the liquid out.

Anyone else have problems getting the lid closed? The gasket that came with the 60L tank is too large and doesn't allow the lid to seal.

        MoreWine

Apply a thin coating of keg lube to the O-ring put O-ring in lid put lid on ground (inside facing up) put fermenter on lid push down on fermenter you will feel & hear the lid pop test for leaks with water. Use small port in lid to fill or for dry hopping

        MoreWine

Ok Fellas (and ladies). If you are having trouble getting the gasket to remain in place in the lid I have the solution and will share my "Aha!" moment. (Don't kick yourselves when you read this!) It is gravity that is pulling the gasket out of position when you try to put the lid on the Speidel fermenter. Use gravity to your advantage! Sanitize your fermenter and lid then place the lid on a sturdy table or countertop. Align the sanitized gasket in the groove. Leave the lid on the table and flip your sanitized fermenter over and place the fermenter onto the lid! Gravity holds the gasket in place and when you press you will hear that satisfying snap of a properly installed and sealed lid EVERY TIME. Bonus: You don’t have to worry about the black retention band on the lid slipping out of the retention band tabs. Cheers!!

        MoreWine

I make sure it is pressed tightly into the lid. I've had it not quite seal a few times when I was in a rush.

        MoreWine

The thing I discovered about the gasket is it is designed to fit inside the lid not on the tank. Inside the lid there is a recess on the outer edge that holds the gasket. To help hold the gasket in place while working with the lid I coat the gasket with CIP-Film. When you install the lid on the tank push down on the lid firmly around the perimeter and you should feel it slip into place and hear a slight "pop". When I clean and sanitize this fermenter it is placed upside down without leaking. I have not had any problems achieving a seal. Hope this helps.

        MoreWine

Are you putting the gasket on the farthest outer ring? Was confusing to me where it should lay but it should go on the outermost ring. If even then it is too large then it may have gotten stretched (as these speidel lid gaskets tend to do)

        MoreWine

Make sure you are putting the gasket in the outer most grove on the lid it looks like it should go on the inner grove at first glance but this is wrong It goes in the outer groove. Every time I go to put it on I have to look twice.

        MoreWine

There are two areas inside the lid where the ring will fit. The rubber ring goes into the most outside area. It fits well in there. I installed the ring into the inner ring at first. It was too big and the lid would not close because the seal could not be made. Not sure if that’s the problem you are having but after I figured out the correct location mine works great.

        MoreWine

I own several of these 60L The gasket can slip off if you are not careful. I press the gasket in and slowly turn the lid over and press the lid on the tank. Make sure the gasket is in the right slot (gasket slot). I think these are wonderful tanks!
